Do you believe in the potential of there existing a world in which there are no poor people? One where we are each living comfortably enough to not worry about basic needs? Well, I have a thought for you. But first, one more question, what is the biggest difference between the rich and the poor? The answer is a key issue politicians like throwing around in their campaign promises. Education. Whether you are taught by life experiences, practical application, the streets, or in a classroom, the ability to learn and grow is likely one of the biggest drivers of progress at both the individual and collective levels. Through it, we can adapt and advance through gaining knowledge from what we see, hear, touch, and experience.
Take the real-world Iron Man as an example. The visionary Elon Musk is the very definition of learning from your failures. From the years of struggling to make Tesla the automotive giant, it is today to watching rockets blow up in his face with the entire world watching regularly. And the funny thing is, each explosion was a stepping stone. A new lesson on how to develop the technology into the cost-effective, and reusable marvel it is now. And that’s not even half of it. The crazy thing is he’s not done yet. Even bringing the cheapest rockets to market is not enough. It is yet another stepping stone on the company’s journey to interplanetary travel.

Though books are a sort of cheat code. By inputting and applying the knowledge of those who have come before us, we can better prepare for the weird curveballs this world loves tossing our way. However, this does not guarantee your success. Knowledge from the past or other people is limited to the constraints of the environment which existed at the time it was generated. As such, there emerges a need for flexibility in its application which is where one’s ability to adapt and create a solution based on who you are, what you know, and your perception of the ideal outcome. It’s quite mental if you think about it. To think that people have so much control.

Strange how answers to complex problems today can be traced back to tiny roots in your past. From an annoying former lover who happened to teach you a skill you formerly considered useless, to a lesson your mom beat into your hard head when you were younger. These seemingly low-impact acts tend to make a grand entrance at the most unexpected of times carrying a crazy amount of weight behind them. Sometimes, life changes completely thanks in some way to things dismissed as irrelevant in the past and all you can do is watch as it unravels and gives you access to a new path with a bunch of new perks and quite a few scary bits of uncertainty.
