Feels like a really long time since I last posted something on WeirdoW. Somewhere along the way, my focus seems to have shifted from expressing my crazy fascinations and theories to thinking about them as deeply as I can go. I bet my fellow overthinkers can relate. Fortunately, this means I have months upon months of weirdness to share with you all. Therefore, without further ado, I hereby cordially invite you to join me on this journey into the abyss of my fantasies.

To start with, have you heard about this little thing called the metaverse? That thingy Mark Zuckerberg changed his T-shirt for? Well, as you can probably already guess, it is going to change quite a few aspects of our daily lives. The merging of web 3.0, virtual/augmented reality, and blockchain will generate what I can only term as a crazy utopia. And I’m not just saying that. Picture spiderman’s ‘No way home’ and ‘Into the spider-verse having a baby with Roblox and Fortnite.

From being able to create an entire planet to potentially making humans both immortals (when linked to the decentralized wonder that is blockchain and smart contracts) and ‘gods’ (creation of true artificial intelligence), the creative potential of this technology is both scary and inspiring at the same time. So why do I say it may bring about immortality? Well, for one, data collection will advance from just what you do online to how you think, who you are, and how you view yourself. This has the potential of creating a virtual replica of you as an individual based on how much time and interaction you have within this virtual universe.

I know this is starting to sound kind of mental but do hear me out. Current virtual/ augmented reality tech isn’t nearly as immersive as it would need to be to copy you fully. But what would happen if Elon Musk’s Neuralink brain implants integrated the metaverse into its functionality. At this point of madness, data would be collected directly from your brain impulses. The concept of data privacy would probably need a new definition at this point though.

With so much of who you are being recorded onto your profile within the metaverse, don’t you think it is quite feasible for a copy of you to emerge? Each time you save your progress, a small piece of you is integrated into your virtual self so to speak. Should this existence be isolated and converted into a form of an artificial existence, we as humans will have crossed into a realm that can be likened, in some ways, to godhood. To top it all off, this being would only need regular maintenance to continue existing. As such, an immortal version of you would be born.

It’s a far-fetched notion which, as is with all innovations throughout human history, can become a reality should enough time and effort be allocated to it. We are living in a rapidly changing era in which discoveries and new technologies are coming together in an unsettling manner. I shall take you through more of this in my next update.
