The Evolution of Education

Is it just me or does 2021 seem to be in a hurry to go somewhere? How in the world is it March already?? It kind of feels like the days have been zipping past like Musk’s rockets with each passing week bringing some weird tech that some human thought up. And honestly, the next decade will likely be one full of crazy innovations and the death or decline of several existing systems. Speaking of which, did you know part of Elon’s SpaceX vision is to use actual rockets to shuttle people not just into space but between countries like current jets do? The kid in me got quite restless when I tried to picture flying through space just to visit the anime heaven that is Japan. It’d probably revive my childhood love for stargazing.

Though if I am, to be honest, there’s plenty of fun things that have been overloading my brain of late. I can feel it in my bones. And no, I don’t mean some Mayan 2012 typa thing, but a period of evolution of technologies and systems that currently hold the modern world together. I mean, take education as an example. It is increasingly becoming clear that current systems are unable to keep up with the rate of change and advancements in ways of thinking, how we relate to each other, and our knowledge base. And while I do recognize the importance of creating a stable foundation on existing knowledge, a balance must be struck between old and new information. I recently came across a photo that contained some incredibly wise words. Everything you’re taught up to University is readily available on the internet.

So picture this. Imagine a world in which the internet was the baseline for educating the world. Take a moment to let that sink in. The internet contains knowledge from the best and worst minds on the planet. Should a system be created that can isolate, organize, index, and optimize all this content for the mental, physical, and overall growth and development of kids the current world order would be flipped on its head. Taken to its extreme, this has the potential to create a global standard for how kids get educated.

As it stands, countries that have great internet coverage already have plenty of under 18 self-made internet millionaires. A perfect example would be 2020’s highest-paid YouTuber who happens to be a 9-year-old who went on to build a business based on his channel. It’s incredible what even young children are capable of when given the right kind of exposure. In an ideal world, this kind of system could greatly bridge the gap between the wealthy and the poor seeing as the internet is slowly making its way towards global coverage. This is thanks to the efforts of visionaries like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos who are currently in a race to deliver the internet to be the most remote of regions using satellites.

This could enhance the ability of even the poorest of people to access educative content in addition to the ever-increasing number of online income-generating opportunities. Fortunately, the cost of tech such as laptops is set to become even more affordable with time as it becomes increasingly standardized. As such, assuming the powers that be do not put in any funny restrictions, the future seems to hold some interesting prospects for people from all walks of life.
