Today, we take a commercial break from Ella and James. For no reason other than the sheer levels of crazy going on everywhere. I mean, it has even gotten to a point where a rapidly spreading killer virus feels as irrelevant as yesterday’s memes. Even Hollywood has never been this creative. 2020 feels like a mashup of some of the biggest blockbusters there are.
However, one key character is missing, the star who will save us all. The guys who always save the day on our screens are as clueless and confused as the rest of us with some even becoming part of the problem. This just goes to show how wierd reality actually is. The sheer scale of variables that determine what will happen in the next second, minute, day and even a millennia from now do not allow for the existence of a Spiderman that will arrive in the nick of time to stop some rogue cops from choking a man out in broad daylight. Or the appearance of a chosen leader who will deliver the world from its suffering.

Real life comes with no heroes, no star of the show and no special people who shall deliver us from our troubles. Why? Because we are all individuals in a huge world trying to live our best lives. What you could see as an evil being stealing could be an individual who has been driven to it by circumstance and is merely trying to create a future for themselves or their loved ones. A future they dreamt of as a child, while dreams looked possible and before life happened.
I recently came across a quote that felt like the most relatable thing I’ve seen of late. It goes like, “You know you’re growing up when you realize that your siblings, parents and everyone around you is not just a side character in your story, but a person just like you making their way through a challenging world.”I guess somewhere along the way, people turned to creating stories based on the ideal situation. This typically ignores the countless other possibilities of failure represented by small changes in otherwise negligible parts of the story. For example: Just what kind of shoe would fit only one person in an entire kingdom as portrayed in Cinderella’s story?
If only we could Abra cadabra or hocus pocus our way our of pandemics, police brutality and racism. Wish our way out of locust invasions and global pandemics. Then maybe, just maybe, happily ever after could become a reality.

Well, thanks for reminding me that life is unpredictable, even though sometimes it is comforting to believe that there is a hero somewhere out there who will show up just in the nick of time to save us.
