Short story (Part 1/ Teaser-ish)

I wanna tell you a story about an adorable teen girl. She was awkward around people, barely knew how to socialize and spent a lot of her time watching cartoons and romantic comedies. She would curl up on her favorite couch wearing a baggy sweater and wrap her tiny fingers around a huge mug and sip on her hot cocoa as she watched her favorite shows. As you can probably guess, she is an introvert and her name is just as lovely as she is, Ella.

On a chilly Saturday morning, she decided to do something uncharacteristic of her morning routine. She went out for a walk. For some reason, she woke up with a yearning for nature and she just couldn’t help herself. So she put on her headphones, put her slow jam playlist and started the short walk to arboretum which was close to home.

As she weaved through the greenery encased paths of the park, thoughts of olden days where she would visit with her late mom started streaming into her mind. The many moments she shared with her started streaming into her mind and she couldn’t help tearing up. And she stopped in her tracks trying her hardest to hold back that first teardrop but it just wouldn’t comply. And she broke down. Crying for the love that still burns in her heart. Sobbing for that one person she longed to see but never will again. Hoping for that warm embrace that she won’t feel again.

“Who knew one could feel such pain from an emotion?” She whispered to herself. “Why is it so hard to say goodbye?” She now asked herself desperately. “Five years down the line and the pain still feels as fresh as the day I lost her. Why??” But no answer came.

So I ask you, just what is emotional pain?

  1. Touching, I hoped to continue reading…., I’d say emotional pain is the scar that never heals. We just learn to live with it.

  2. Does the mum appear? If anything I know, there is no longing greater, no desire deeper that to see someone you lost, one more embrace, one more touch, just one more time. You’ve taken me back, great piece
