Memories

Have you ever heard a tune that seemed to resonate into the quietest part of your soul? One that seems to stir your spirit and bring out the words and emotions hidden in the depths of your very being? Some songs feel like they are specifically designed to bring out our vulnerabilities. It’s like they strike just the right chord to match the songs of our hearts. Corny right (Hahaha)?

The songs to watch out for are those that will throw you into a smiling and teary-eyed session of serious throwbacks as you flashback to some moments in our pasts. Moments that probably defined who we are now more than we will ever know. These times are probably when we are at our most vulnerable. Why? Because at that very moment, you are at your happiest and your saddest at the same damn time.

You think about those days when your smile was at its most genuine and those nights where you cried from the bottom of your heart. When you felt like you could no longer move on and when you felt like you could take on the world. It’s funny how we humans are defined by so many factors. So many kinds of experiences make up the story that is each one of us and they are what shape who we will be in the future. And just imagine that this is all made possible by the fact that we are willing to share our experiences and lives. I think that this is the very essence of that art is.

It is a way for us to capture a moment in time and hold on to it for as long as we can. While we shouldn’t let our pasts weigh us down, they are still an integral part of who we are now. This is why we humans are so drawn to arts like photography, paintings, music and videography to mention but a few. They capture a moment in time that will never come back again. Be it a moment of inspiration, a special day shared with a loved one, an emotion experienced at an especially important occasion and so much more.

Sometimes I find myself wondering what kind of movies people’s memories would make. I mean, what if instead of obituaries, we could download a person’s memories after they passed and watch them. What would we see? What would you see when you look at yourself from the perspective of a loved one? Maybe your lost parent sibling or child? Perhaps a friend who you cherished deeply? What would it be like to find out exactly how deeply one or two people cared for us?

Crazy thoughts right??
