Humanity

Have you ever wondered how an obscure monkey-like creature came to rule the world? What causes this proud species to prosper to this extent? Were we just inevitable? I’d like to propose that we were inevitable. I mean just think about it. Going by what science knows so far, the earth has been around for a few billion years. During which time the planet has undergone several changes. Some of which include crashing into space junk, receiving a serious uppercut from an asteroid, the emergence and eventual extinction of billions upon billions of species and that barely even scratches the surface.

So don’t you think that the emergence of a ‘super-species’ was inevitable? The fundamentals of natural selection tell us that it is, in fact, more probable than not. Remember that survival of the fittest applies even in the microscopic realm. Where only the strongest cells and genes survive. As such, for our genetic makeup to have been something that is as a result of the addition and subtraction of strengths and weaknesses throughout billions of years of evolution our planet has seen is quite possible. Just as mother nature grows and changes with time, humanity is the first species to be able to come close to the ridiculous scope of change that mother nature sees.

We as a species can change and grow at an impressive pace. To think that at some point in our history, we got the urge to make the planet bend to our will. We decided to come together and build a civilization like no other. How you ask? By competing with each other as well as by cooperating. Some of the biggest technological advances were brought about by strange stuff like conflict which gave us nuclear tech, competition that gave us space travel and even cooperation that birthed our beloved internet.
And as we grow and advance, I have a feeling that we will end up evolving past the concept of countries, races, and tribes. The rate at which we are tending towards global cooperation and with intermarriage becoming more common, we may just see a future in which there are so many mixed children in a single generation that it is difficult to identify with any one country or race. So what comes next in such a case? I have no clue. but it would be fun to see what would drive humanity to progress in such a situation.

Would the concept of belonging be redefined? Would we just change the fundamentals of being a country to be driven by geography? Or would the first global empire be born? Throughout history, we have had great leaders try and fail to rule the entire world. But the secret to achieving that could end up being as simple as just letting nature run its course.
That’s it for this week’s dose of weirdness. Till next week my fellow WierdoWs.

  1. Good thinking,
The world may be an empire someday, a long time to come that is. This will be achieved either through unity or war. The latter sounds more realistic though considering the world is full of selfish people haha
